Crunch Time

Girls lax pairings

The MIAA girls lacrosse tournament pairings came out on Thursday and Manchester Essex learned of its first round opponent. The fourth seeded Hornets (14-2) will host No. 13 Shawsheen (11-4) on Tuesday, May 28 at Hyland Field (3:45 p.m.) in the Division 2 North First Round.

The Hornets enter the tournament on a tear having won their last eight regular season games in the tough Cape Ann League.

The winner of the Manchester Essex vs. Shawsheen matchup will move on to the quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 5 Ipwich vs. No. 12 Arlington Catholic.

Tournament pushed back

The Rockport Memorial Bank Baseball Tournament has been pushed back a day this weekend. Friday’s first round matchups at Evans Field have been pushed back to Saturday with Manchester Essex squaring off with Pope John at 3:00 p.m. and Rockport meeting Somerville at 6:00 p.m. The winners will meet in the tournament final Sunday at 6:00 p.m. with the losers meeting in the consolation game at 3:00 p.m.

The tournament has serious tournament implications for both Rockport and Manchester Essex. No matter what Rockport does in the first round it must beat either Manchester Essex or Pope John to get into the postseason. Manchester Essex, on the other hand, needs help needing to beat Pope John in the first round and then beat Rockport in the championship round. If Rockport loses to Somerville in the first round the Hornets are eliminated from tournament contention.

All NBA Team

The All NBA teams were released on Thursday and there were little surprises. The first team consists of Heat forward Lebron James, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Spurs forward Tim Duncan and Clippers guard Chris Paul.

Knicks forward Carmello Anthony, Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, Spurs guard Tony Parker, Clippers forward Blake Griffin and Grizzlies center Marc Gasol make up the second team. Rockets guard James Harden, Heat guard Dwyane Wade, Lakers center Dwight Howard, Pacers forward Paul George and Warriors forward David Lee were named to the third team.
