The Gloucester High boys’ soccer Fishermen will be playing in the postseason.
A three-goal performance by Calvin Kipruto and a second-half goal by Alex Dahlmer lifted the Fishermen to a 4-1 win over Swampscott under the lights at Newell Stadium Thursday night, assuring Gloucester of enough standings points to earn a tournament berth.
“We did it — we punched our ticket into the cup playoffs,” Gloucester Coach Armando Mornoto said enthusiastically.
Kipruto gave the Fishermen a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-half goals while goalkeeper Treigh Worrell-Shannon held down the fort at the other end, while Kipruto polished off his hat trick early into the second half.
A goal by Dahlmer following an indirect kick then closed out the night’s scoring.
The Fishermen can’t look ahead to the playoffs yet. They return to action Monday for a 6:15 game at Marblehead.
