Running back Jordan Pallazola raced for three fourth-quarter touchdowns tonight to help carry the Gloucester High Fishermen to a 28-13 win over Beverly in a quarterfinal Division 3 football clash at GHS’ New Balance Field at Newell Stadium.
With the score tied 7-7, Pallazola burst in from four yards out with 6:12 to go to put GHS ahead to stay, then scored on a 39-yard run two minutes later to put the Fishermen up 21-7.
Beverly answered on a 1-yard TD run by Steve Negron, but Pallazola scored again from 5 yards out to seal the deal with 1:41 left.
The win, Gloucester’s first playoff appearance and victory since 2010, lifts the fourth-seeded Fishermen, now 6-2 overall, into next week’s Division 3 Northeast semifinals against either top-seeded Tewksbury or Somerville.
The triumph was the Fishermen’s second nail-biting win over Beverly this season; Gloucester also rallied past the Panthers earlier this month on 1-yard quarterback sneak by Ian Kennedy, also at the newly-”renewed” Newell Stadium.
The Fishermen had gotten on the board in the first quarter on a 37-yard run by Jon Good, and Gloucester led 7-0 at the half. But Beverly tied the game hen Isiah White broke free for a 47-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
