Bobby V the AD

Bobby Valentine has a new gig, and it’s not the type of gig anyone would expect. On Friday the much maligned former Red Sox skipper was hired by Sacred Heart University to be its athletic director.

Valentines appointment at the Fairfield, Conn. school will be officially announced on Tuesday.

Valentine is a Connecticut native and he will oversee 31 varsity sports programs at Sacred Heart.

“Bobby V” managed the Red Sox to one of their worst seasons in over a decade as the team finished with an abysmal 69 wins, he was fired immediately after the season ended. He takes over as athletic director at a school where the baseball team has made consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.

A pair of Gloucester natives are currently student athletes at Sacred Heart. Josh Salah is a standout senior on the golf team while Dylan Morrissey is a senior on the lacrosse team.

On the Air

Rockport’s Heather MacArthur will appear on North Shore 104.9’s North Shore Sports Desk this morning (8:00 a.m.) as the North Shore Student Athlete of the Week.

Lackey Returns

The wait is finally over.

Red Sox pitcher John Lackey makes his much anticipated return to the mound today when the Red Sox square off with the Tampa Bay Rays in a split squad Grapefruit League game.

Lackey has not seen the mound in 16 months, fans are hoping he can turn things around after an awful 2011 campaign.
