Senior captain Jason Vizena was Gloucester boys basketball’s lone representative on the Northeastern Conference All Star team this season.
Vizena was second on the Fishermen in scoring with 9.5 points per game as the team’s starting shooting guard. A two way player, Vizena was named to the NEC All Star team for the second season in a row.
All State Success
St. John’s Prep Junior and Gloucester native Evan Dombrowski has a strong showing at this weekend’s All State Track and Field Championships. The senior, who broke St. John’s Prep’s shot put record this winter, came in fifth place over the weekend with a throw of 53’10.5”.
Donbrowski now moves on to the New England Championships this coming weekend and the National Championships in New York City on March 9.
Big Game Alert
The MIAA state tournament kicks off for Cape Ann teams today as No. 15 Manchester Essex girls basketball travels to No. 2 Pope John tonight (7:00 p.m.) in the Division 4 North First Round.
Don’t let the disparity in records fool you, Manchester Essex is 7-13, Pope John 18-2, this is a good matchup between two of the better teams in the section. The matchup is also a rematch of last year’s Division 4 North First Round where Pope John pulled away late in the fourth quarter to come away with a hard fought 42-31 win.
Manchester Essex will send five skiers to the State Ski Championships today at Berkshire East Ski Center in Charlemont, MA.
Brian McAuliff will represent the boys side while Megan Jones, Alex Marshall, Megan Clark and Lizzi White will race for the Manchester Essex girls.
