Crunch Time

New England Track Championships

A pair of locals had outstanding performances this weekend in the New England Track and Field Championships.

Gloucester’s Jacob Holscher followed up a fifth place performance at last week’s All State Meet with a seventh place performance at New England’s with a time of 4:25.27. Holscher will cap off a stellar indoor season at next week’s National Championships in New York City, NY thanks to this weekends finish.

Holscher has already been crowned Northeastern Conference mile champion to go along with a third place finish in the Division 2 State meet and last week’s top five finish at the All State meet.

“He ran a smart race that was fast paced,” Gloucester head coach Jeff Destino said. “He’s had a great senior season.”

St. John’s Prep junior shot putter Evan Dombrowski, of Gloucester, broke his own school record at the New England meet this weekend and will also be moving on to the Nationals next weekend.

Dombrowski finished second in the shot put with a throw of 55’6”.

Point Streak Alive

As awesome as the Bruins have been in the early goings of the 2013 season, the Chicago Blackhawks have been even better. Chicago is setting a new league record each night it comes away with a point and on Sunday the team improved its record 19-0-2 on the season earning 41 of a possible 44 points.

The Blackhawks have yet to lose in regulation. Chicago has earned a point in 28 straight games dating back to a playoff loss to the Nashville Predators last May.

The Bruins may be off the their best start in 83 years but the Blackhawks are off to the best start in the history of the league.
