Gloucester's Roland to be inducted into Brewster Academy HOF

He may have only spent one year at Brewster Academy as a post graduate, but in that one year Gloucester’s Bob Roland certainly made his mark on the school.

On June 1 Roland, a former three sport standout Gloucester High School and Brewster, will be enshrined in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. The former Gloucester High School Athletic Director and 1966 graduate of the Wolfeboro, NH school will be honored along with former NFL tight end Milt Morin at the June ceremony.

“It’s a great honor that I wasn’t expecting or anticipating,” Roland said. “I had a great year up there and I can’t wait to get up there with my family for the ceremony.”

“We are excited to honor Bob in our Hall of Fame,” Brewster Academy Athletic Director Matt Lawlor. “He was a standout three-sport athlete during his time at Brewster and went on to be a major contributor in the education field for his work at Gloucester HS.”

Roland was a three sport star at Brewster Academy during the 1965-1966 school year excelling in football, basketball and lacrosse. After Brewster Roland would go on to Heidelberg College in Ohio where he played football before becoming a football coach, track coach and athletic director at Gloucester High.

Ironically it was fellow inductee Morin that turned Roland on to the Brewster football program. Morin was an all american tight end who went on to play in the NFL, as a fellow tight end, Roland thought the school would be a good fit.

“They were producing a lot of good tight ends so it was a perfect fit,” Roland said.

After injuries in the Brewster backfield Roland was thrown a curve ball. The life long tight end switched from tight end to running back for the season to fill a team need. Although he was playing an unfamiliar position Roland still shined earning All-New England honors. He went on to move back to tight end at Heidelberg.
