Crunch Time

Drew Official

Shortstop Stephen Drew was officially introduced as a member of the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, the same day the team announced a trade for closer Joel Hanrahan.

Red Sox fans are hoping Stephen produces more than his overpriced brother JD Drew, who spent a lot of his time on the Red Sox either underperforming or on the disabled list.

Hopefully this will not be a bad omen, but Stephen as opted to wear the number 7, just as his brother did in Boston. Fortunately for the Red Sox Stephen Drew is only on the books for one year meaning there is no chance the Sox will be stuck with a bad contract. Stephen Drew is slated to be the team’s starting shortstop.

In other Red Sox news, the team says there is still nothing to report when it comes to first baseman/catcher Mike Napoli, who signed with the team weeks ago, but the deal has yet to be made official.

Not Ready Yet

According to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, Rob Gronkowski will not take the field in a game situation until the playoffs begin.

Belichick told the media after practice Wednesday that the All Pro tight end is currently “not ready” to see any game action.

“We’ll see how he is,” Belichick said. “He did more last week than the week before, and we’ll see where he’s at today and tomorrow when we go out there; we’ll see what he can do. We’ll take it day-to-day, we’ll make decisions day-to-day based on where he’s at. He’s moving along, (he’s) not ready yet. We’ll take it day-to-day and see how it goes.”

The answer was a typical vague Belichick answer but the fact that the head coach is publicly stating that Gronkowski is not ready to play probably means that we won’t see him until the postseason, whether it be the Wild Card Round or the Divisional Round depending on the Patriots earning a first round bye or not.
