Rockport 55 Ipswich 40
The Vikings move to 4-0 on the season with another dominant win Friday night. Rockport led by as much as 20 points in the fourth quarter in the win.
Shaun Aspesi led the Vikings with 17 points, Tucker Meredith had 14 and Adam Balzarini chipped in 10 points in the win. Head coach Tim St. Laurent was also quick to credit the play of his bench including Mike McCarthy, Caleb Tanson and Billy Chalmers.
“The kids played hard and our bench was great again,” St. Laurent said. “Sophomore guard Mike McCarthy had a huge block in the third quarter, pinning a shot against the rim and then found Tucker Meredith for a three and we rolled from there. It was a nice win, we were able to play our game.”
Manchester Essex 35
The Hornets move to 2-3 on the year with a win in the consolation round of the Ipswich Holiday Tournament Friday.
Carolyn Heslop led the way for Manchester Essex with 12 points, Sydney Christopher chipped in six while Evy Weihs and Eliza Logue had four points each.
Woburn 32 Gloucester 21
Gloucester (1-2) played great defensively but had a tough time on the offensive end in the Stoneham Holiday Tournament. Sophie Black led way with eight points, Katie Ciaramitaro and Marlee Melvin had four points each.
Gloucester will play Dracut tonight in the consolation round at Stoneham (5:30 p.m.).
“We had a hard time putting the ball in the basket but nothing should be taken away from the way the girls played on defense,” head coach Brandon Lewis said. “We held (Woburn) to a low number but it was just one of those nights where the ball didn’t go in the hoop.”
