Crunch Time

Brady picking

a favored foe?

Tom Brady made no bones about it. He wouldn’t mind taking out the Baltimore Ravens and ending the career of Ray Lewis here in Foxboro.

Wednesday, Brady talked about a previous collision with Lewis and the Ravens.

“It was a quarterback sneak for a first down conversion. He is still an incredible player and a competitor. I know so many people have said so many things about him and certainly the guys that have played with him can probably speak to him the best. But it was a privilege to play against him,” said Brady, who wandered into strange territory with his words.

“I always enjoy beating the Ravens so, yeah, anytime I can beat those guys. They got us once this year. There’s nobody that’s played that position any better than him.”

Pioli out in KC

NFL head coaches and executives continue to go down a week after the regular season ended. On Friday Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli “parted ways” with the Chiefs organization.

Pioli was the President of Player Personelle with the Patriots during their three Super Bowl championships but the Chiefs did not make the playoffs in four years with Pioli as GM.

Pioli steps away on the same day that Andy Reid was hired as the new Chiefs head coach. Reid was fired by the Eagles on Monday and the move doesn’t appear to be a good fit for Reid. The former Eagles coach loves to throw the football and the Chiefs had some of the worst quarterback play in the league this season with Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn.

Kansas City has the No. 1 pick of the draft but there is no quarterback worth drafting that early this year.

Don’t panic

It’s tough to be optimistic about the 14-17 Celtics, but now is certainly not the time to panic. The Celtics have made a habit of looking mediocre in the regular season over the last four years, and have also looked their worst in the month of January.
