---- — Thank you Tim
Sure Tim Thomas’ time with the Bruins ended with a whimper, and he proved to have a not so likable personality. But that shouldn’t take away from the contributions he made to the team in his time in Boston.
Thomas was one of the most successful goaltenders the Bruins organization has ever seen and the most successful in the last three decades. One would have to go all the way back to Gerry Cheevers to find a goalie with Thomas’ credentials.
Thomas won a pair of Vezina Trophies, given to the best goalie in the NHL, and more importantly a Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
If Thomas never suited up in a Bruins uniform the team would still be waiting for its first Stanley Cup since 1972, and who knows, maybe this core group of players we all know and love at the moment would have been blown up by now if it weren’t for Thomas’ 2011 heroics.
In Boston we all seem to dwell on the way things ended, in Thomas’ case lets dwell on what happened when he was here and remember the ride he took us on just two seasons ago, a we hadn’t experienced in nearly four decades.
The “Cameron Crazies”, Duke’s rabid and faithful fans, have earned a reputation of some of the most knowledgeable and fanatical fans in all of sports. After a chant they turned out this week, you can add classless and heartless to the list of accolades as well.
Duke fans chanted “How’s your grandma” at North Carolina State’s Tyler Lewis, whose grandmother passed away last week.
I’m all for a rowdy and aggressive crowd, but personal taunts about the death of a player’s grandmother is pathetic at best, especially from a school as self righteous as Duke.
Tonight’s high school sporting events have also been postponed due to the winter storm.
Gloucester hockey was set to take on Saugus at 6:00 p.m. at the Talbot Rink, no makeup date has been announced. Rockport hockey’s game with at Revere scheduled for tonight has been moved to Monday (4:30 p.m.) at the Cronin Rink in Revere.
