Orr’s unbelievable record
Bobby Orr holds the NHL record for the best plus/minus ranking in a single season with a plus-124 during the 1970-71 season.
That’s remarkable considering how no NHL player has recorded more than a plus-52 rating over the past 10 seasons.
Patrice Bergeron led the NHL with a plus-36 last year and Zdeno Chara led with a plus-33 the year before.
Jeff Schultz recorded a league-leading plus-50 rating in 2009-10 while David Krejci led the league with a plus-37 in 2008-09.
Pavel Datsyuk posted a plus-41 in 2007-08 while Thomas Vanek led with a plus-47 in 2006-07.
Wade Redden and Michal Rozsival (plus-35) tied for the lead in 2005-06. Martin St. Louis and Marek Malik (plus-35) tied in 2003-04.
Peter Forsberg and Milan Hejduk both had a plus-52 rating in 2002-03 and Chris Chellios recorded a plus-40 rating in 2001-02.
Sandy Hook Tribute
Major League Baseball will honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting during the opening games of this regular season. All players, managers, coaches, umpires and on-field personnel will wear a symbolic ribbon patch. There also will be a pregame moment of silence at each ballpark.
The patch features the official seal of Newtown, Conn. along with a black memorial ribbon and 26 stars, honoring each victim, lining each side of the patch.
For each major league club, MLB.com will auction an authenticated jersey signed by all players and coaches on each team’s Opening Day roster with proceeds benefitting the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
