Gloucester Local Sports Briefs

Wrestling

The Gloucester Police Relief Association will present USWF Wrestling on Friday, April 9 at 7 p.m. at Fuller School. The event will feature "General" Scott Duffany as well as a former WWE star. Tickets and donations are being solicited over the phone by an advertising firm. Funds are used for scholarships, area donations and benefits for members of the Relief Association.

Softball

The Cape Ann Women's Softball League (CAWSL) sign-ups for women 18 years and older will be held on Friday, April 23 at Mattos Field (Veteran's Memorial School) on Webster Street in Gloucester at 6 p.m. Registration is $10 (non-refundable) and registrants should bring their gloves. Track

The City of Lynn Parks and Recreation Department will once again host the 4th annual local Hershey Youth Track and Field Games that will take place on Saturday, June 12 at the Manning Field in Lynn. The Games are for all boys and girls who were born in the years 1996 to 2001 (ages 8 to 14). The running events are from 50 meters to 1600 meters. The field events are the standing long jump and softball throw. The meet is open to all Massachusetts communities. Football

The Gloucester High School football team is looking for sponsors for the 2009 championship rings. The price right now is $200 per ring, and with the help and support of local businesses and private donations we will be able to supplicate the costs of the ring. If we do reach our goal of having all the rings paid for, the remaining donations will be sent to the GFAA in an attempt to lower the cost of user fees.

Lacrosse

Cape Ann Youth Lacrosse is happy to announce a U15 girls lacrosse team has been established for the 2010 season, girls in 5th-8th grades are eligible to play. Former Gloucester High girls coach Meghan MaClaughlin will be the new girls U15 coach. You can register online at www.capeannyouthlacrose.org. Registration is $100 plus $25 for USLacrosse membership. Coaching Openings

Gloucester High School is looking for a boys junior varsity lacrosse coach for the spring season and a boys varsity soccer coach for the fall. For more information, please contact Athletic Director Kim Patience at 978-281-9877.

Baseball

All players who are interested in playing either Senior or Junior Legion Baseball for the 2010 season should attend an informational meeting on Thursday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Gloucester High School. Player fees, schedules, tryout information and other topics will be covered. All players from last year must return their jerseys and pants. If you can't make this meeting and are interested in playing on the Senior team, please contact Gerald MacKillop at 978-778-8327, or if you are interested in playing on the Junior team, please contact Paul Muniz at 617-345-3494. Post 3 Legion Baseball is open to players from Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester and Essex.
