---- — Big Game Alert
All three boys soccer teams on Cape Ann have key conference games this afternoon.
Rockport (2-1) will travel to Cape Ann League rival Lynnfield (1-1-1) at 3:45 p.m. The Vikings are in a three-way tie for first place in the Cape Ann League Small with Ipswich and Georgetown and will need a win to keep pace.
Manchester Essex (1-1-1) will host Ipswich (2-1) at 3:45 p.m. in another important Cape Ann League Small matchup. A win for the Hornets would be huge and would see them move up the CAL Small standings.
Finally, 2-0 Gloucester will look to keep its season opening win streak going when it travels to Northeastern Conference Small rival Swampscott (4 p.m.). Gloucester currently sits atop the NEC Small and a win will keep it atop the league standings.
Monday’s “Monday Blitz” section incorrectly stated that Gloucester will be playing Lynn Classical this Friday night. The Fishermen will in fact be playing Masconomet Friday night (7 p.m.) at Masconomet in a Division 3 Northeast Clash.
The Fishermen already played Lynn Classical on September 6, coming away with a 15-14 win.
Pats TV Rating
The Patriots and Jets game Thursday drew a combined average household rating of 34.2 for NFL Network’s national coverage and local coverage from Channel 5 in Boston and Channel 9 in New Hampshire.
It was an 11 percent increase in average household rating from the Patriots season opener against the Bills on Sept. 9.
Speaking of television ratings, the “Manning Bowl” which pitted Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning against his brother, Giants quarterback Eli Manning, did a 17.8, better than Game 7 of the NBA Finals this summer.
Sox for a buck
The Red Sox have a promotion going Wednesday where if you walk up to Gate E with a real, fake or painted beard, you’ll gain admittance into the game for only $1. Not a bad deal.
The Red Sox play the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday with Red Sox RHP Jake Peavy (11-5, 4.03) going against LHP Wei-Yin Chen (7-7, 3.99).
