Area Roundup: Rockport boys soccer blanks rival Lynnfield

Boys Soccer

Rockport 2 Lynnfield 0

The Vikings move to 3-1 and remain atop the Cape Ann League Small, tied with Georgetown, with Tuesday’s win against the always tough Pioneers.

Jonathan Ferrante got Rockport on the board 17 minutes in with a goal scorers goal beating a defender up the middle and holding off another from the wing before beating the Pioneers goalie for a 1-0 lead.

Shaun Aspesi gave the Vikings an insurance goal 13 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick after Lynnfield was whistled for a handball in the box. Goal keeper Jacob Rostowski picked up his first shutout, Danny Ryan assisted on Ferrante’s goal and the defensive unit of Mike Carbone, Ryan Davis, Mateo Laverde, Patrick McNiff, Conor Kuykendall and Nick Sanfilippo was dominant.

Swampscott 3 Gloucester 1

The Big Blue hand the Fishermen (2-1) their first loss of the young season in Swampscott on Tuesday.

Calvin Kipruto scored Gloucester’s goal in the second half to bring it within a goal at 2-1, but a late Swampscott score put the game away. Winslow Lewis assisted on Kipruto’s goal.

The Fishermen look to get back on the winning track Thursday in their home opener (6:00 p.m.).

Girls Soccer
