Area Roundup: Gloucester golf edged by Winthrop

The Fishermen (3-8) just missed a win Tuesday at Bass Rocks Golf Club.

Curtis Quinn led the way for Gloucester with a 7.5-1.5 win at the No. 1 spot which featured three birdies. Matt Lane moved up to the No. 2 spot and made the most of his opportunity winning 5-4. Zack Thompson picked up a win at the No. 8 spot while Eric Chalmers and Devon Murray each halved their matches.

Pentucket 127, Rockport 114

The Vikings (1-10) fell just short at Rockport Golf Club on Tuesday.

Abby Hood led the way for Rockport with 26 points, Travis Sweet scored 23 points while Ethan Tanson and Joe Muzio each chipped in 19 points.

Field Hockey

Masconomet 3, Rockport 1

The Vikings (5-6-2) held their own against the unbeaten Cape Ann League Large leading Chieftains at home on Tuesday. Rockport head coach Mary Ryan called it an outstanding team effort against one of the top 10 field hockey teams in the state.

Emily Faulds scored the Vikings goal in the second half with an assist from Miranda Roller. Ryan also praised the play of Maddie Rowe in goal along with Shelby Battistelli, Eliza Ottenheimer, Jess Collins and Heather MacArthur.
