Out of Touch
After Joe Paterno's passing Sunday ESPN ran an article with the headline "Joe Paterno's legacy outweighs scandal."
That headline could not be more out of touch with reality. How someone can make the case that covering up for a child molester is not as big of a deal than winning national championships is irresponsible and ridiculous.
I'm sure Ivan Maisel, the author of the story, is not alone, but put me in the category of people that thinks his legacy was absolutely ruined by the scandal, it still baffles me how anybody, even the biggest Penn St. homer, can think otherwise.
Sox make a deal
With the Red Sox trading Marco Scutaro to the Rockies in exchange for essentially a ball of bags, the team now has a gaping hole at shortstop. Sure Scutaro is mediocre in every facet of the game, but he's not bad in any facet of the game.
With that said, if this leads to the signing of Roy Oswalt or Cody Ross, as rumors state, then it's a good deal for Boston. Still, the Red Sox are going to need to address the shorstop position, I can't think of anybody in their right mind who would be comfortable with Mike Aviles or Nick Punto as their starting shortstop, not even the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Good Riddance Big Baby
Glen "Big Baby" Davis returns to the Garden tonight when the Celtics host the Orlando Magic. Now I certainly appreciate what he did for the team when he was here, he stepped up his game in the 2010 and 2009 postseasons.
With that said I was ready to say goodbye to Big Baby. His selfish play and inability to hit a layup or grind in the dirty areas of the floor will not be missed. Give me the much more tough and mature Brandon Bass any day of the week.
