Crunch Time

Pats stay busy

The Patriots front office had a busy day on Friday signing a new player and visiting with several potential free agent acquisitions.

Cornerback Kyle Arrington was re-signed on Friday to the tune of a four-year $16M contract and agreed to a deal with former Bills wide receiver Donald Jones, although the terms of that deal have not yet been disclosed.

Arrington has been a mainstay in the Patriots secondary rotation over the last few seasons and is best suited playing in the slot. Jones torched the Patriots for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns in two meetings with the Bills last season.

In addition to the two signings, the Patriots interviewed a host of potential new Patriots. Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson, Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, Colts pass rusher Dwight Freeney and Falcons defensive end John Abraham were all in town to meet with Patriots brass on Friday.

Sanders is a restricted free agent and the Pats would have to ship a third round pick to the Steelers if he were to sign in New England. Abraham and Freeney would help fill a pass rushing void while Wilson is the type of hard hitting safety the Patriots do not have.

It is also rumored that the team is attempting to restructure the contract of wide receiver Brandon Lloyd so he can remain in a Patriots uniform in 2013.

Woodhead to SD

It was obvious that Danny Woodhead was the odd man out of the Patriots’ back field picture when the team reached an agreement with Leon Washington on Thursday. On Friday it became official as Woodhead agreed to a two-year deal with the Chargers where he is expected to backup Ryan Matthews.

The Patriots backfield quartet now features Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden and Washington.

Flacco coming to town

A local sports team has traded for Flacco. That’s right the Boston Red Sox reached an agreement with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday to acquire first baseman Mike Flacco for a player to be named later.

Mike Flacco is the brother of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, he is a low level prospect who hasn’t played past the Double-A level.
