Dempster official, Napoli not
The Red Sox officially announced the signing of starting pitcher Ryan Dempster on Wednesday.
The 36 year old right handed pitcher looks to give Red Sox innings in the middle of the rotation.
But Dempster’s signing once again brought to the forefront the fact that Mike Napoli has still not officially signed with the team. Napoli reportedly came to an agreement with Boston on December 2, and two and a half weeks later the deal hasn’t been finalized making some wonder if he will ever show up in the Red Sox lineup this season.
It also makes some wary of a pre-existing injury that surfaced during his physical with the team.
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington would not comment on the Napoli situation at Dempster’s official introduction.
The Jets have brought new meaning to the word dysfunctional this season, so much so that their quarterback controversy is stealing headlines despite the fact that at 6-8, the Jets have no shot at making the playoffs.
Jets coach Rex Ryan named Greg McElroy the starter for Sunday’s game against the Chargers skipping over backup quarterback Tim Tebow. Since the decision Tebow has reportedly asked to be traded this off season, which the Jets will surely do. The Jets have also discussed the possibility of trading former starter Mark Sanchez, but the Jets have so much money tied up in Sanchez, and he has played so poorly that no team in their right minds would take a chance on him.
Tebow is also a bad fit with the Jets, who apparently picked him up for headlines instead of results.
Who knows where the Jets will stand next season as ownership is expected to purge the front office and coaching staff so a new group can start over.
Russell vs. Rondo
Never would have guessed that Bill Russell (4,100) had more assists with the Celtics than Paul Pierce (4,009), Rajon Rondo (3,767), JoJo White (3,686) and Dennis Johnson (3,486).
