---- — Over the last half decade Shawsheen has ruled the Commonwealth Athletic Conference. The Rams came into Wednesday’s tilt with Rockport at the Talbot Rink sporting a 47 game winning streak in conference, a streak that has lasted four years.
On Wednesday night, however, Rockport proved that there’s a new sheriff in the CAC with a 5-3 win that snapped Shawsheen’s unbeaten streak.
The Vikings, who improve to 1-1 on the season with the win and held a 42-22 shot advantage on Wednesday, got goals from Jake O’Maley, Dane Tolstrup, John Tucker, Mike Tupper and Conor Douglass. Tucker, Alex Amoroso, Josh Guertin, Jon Ferrante and Mike Foster chipped in assists.
Rockport next hosts Pentucket Saturday night at the Talbot Rink (7:00 p.m.).
Lynnfield tops ME
The Hornets fall to 0-2 but had some strong individual performances. Peter Cottingham placed second in diving and qualified for the state meet with a score of 189.60.
Nathan Rautio placed second in the 200m individual medley with a time of 2:31.52 and the 100m freestyle with a time of 59.4.
