---- — C’s ink Randolph
The Celtics signed power forward Shavlik Randolph to a 10 day contract on Friday.
The 6’10” Randolph spent last year’s lockout shortened season playing in China. He has appeared in 95 NBA games, averaging 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game with the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trailblazers.
Randolph is the third player the Celtics have signed over the last few weeks coming out of the Chinese League. Terrance Williams and DJ White were also brought in by the Celtics after their Chinese contracts expired.
The Celtics upped the ante with Williams on Friday turning a 10 day contract into a two year deal with the team. Fab Mello was assigned to the Developmental League to make room for Randolph.
On the Air
Manchester Essex swimmer/diver Alex Walder will appear on North Shore 104.9’s North Shore Sports Desk this morning (8:00-9:00 a.m.) as the North Shore Student Athlete of the Week.
Walder was also named a Cape Ann League All Star this week.
Garrard to Jets
It looks like the New York Jets will be bringing in a quarterback to compete for the starting job with Mark Sanchez. The team will reportedly sign veteran David Garrard .
Garrard, who has not appeared in a NFL game since 2010, is most known for his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He spent last season in Miami battling injuries. The 35 year old Garrard will reportedly be in open competition with Sanchez, who had an extremely disappointing 2012 season.
