Crunch Time

Preparing for Miami

The Patriots have found an innovative way to prepare for the warm weather as the team travels to Miami to play the Dolphins on Sunday.

This week at practice the Patriots have practiced indoors with the heat turned up Friday to attempt to simulate the heat in Miami.

Lewis to return

The road to the Super Bowl just got a little tougher for the Patriots. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is expected to return on December 16 after injuring his triceps on October 14.

Sure Lewis has lost a step, as the Patriots have proved by exploiting him in the passing game, but he is the heart and soul of that defense and still dictates the team’s demeanor.

Lewis back on the Ravens defense makes it much better, and suddenly the Ravens are looking a lot scarier than they did a month ago.

Stern the Dictator

NBA commissioner David Stern was not pleased with Spurs coach Greg Popovich’s decision to rest stars Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green against the Heat in a nationally televised game.

In fact Stern was so upset he promised to sanction the Spurs.

“I apologize to all NBA fans. This was an unacceptable decision by the San Antonio Spurs and substantial sanctions will be forthcoming,” Stern said in a statement released just before the games’ tipoff.

Stern is overstepping his boundaries on this one. His job is to run the league not tell organizations how to run their teams. The game still ended up being a good game Thursday night with the Heat winning 105-101.

Popovich was looking out for his team, this was not the first time he has decided to rest his aging stars. San Antonio continues to stay relevant and has been one of the two most successful teams in the league over the last decade plus.

Questioning the way the Spurs run the team in the name of television ratings is very disingenuous on the commissioner’s part.
