Gloucester's Marnoto named Massachusetts Youth Soccer's top coach

Armando Marnoto has had extensive success as a soccer coach in his lifetime. On Monday that success was recognized by Massachusetts Youth Soccer as the Gloucester resident was named Massachusetts Youth Soccer Boys Competitive Coach of the Year.

Marnoto was at the coaching forefront this season as Cape Ann Youth Soccer had one of its most successful seasons to date sending several teams to the state playoffs with the U-16 Gloucester Riptide taking home the state title.

Marnoto coached the Fishermen Youth Soccer U-12 boys, the D2 Tide and the North Shore United U-12 Boys this season.

“Armando truly embodies so much of what we value in a coach at Fishermen Youth Soccer,” Fishermen Youth Soccer President Dean Sidell said. “His commitment to his players and his skill as a teacher of the game are to be emulated.”

Marnoto also coaches the Gloucester High School junior varsity soccer team and is a former GHS boys varsity coach, winning a Northeastern Conference Title while at the helm.

Mass. Youth Soccer is the second largest sports organization in the United States representing over 180,000 youth players and hundreds of teams across the state.

Nominations were received from each club team and county based team across the state with an awards committee selecting the winner of each award.

Marnoto was presented a plaque on Monday by Mass Youth Soccer’s Mike Borislow.

“This is a great honor and says a lot about the program (Marnoto is) a part of in Gloucester,” Borislow said.
