Area Roundup: Rockport softball opens season with dominant win

Rockport 16, East Boston 0

The Vikings (1-0) started the season with a bang taking care of business and trouncing East Boston on the road Thursday.

“It was a nice way to start off the year,” Rockport head coach Dianne Parisi said. “We got everybody in and we got to use two pitchers. It was nice to see what we have in a real game situation.”

Rachel Balestraci and Jessica Collins combined on the shutout throwing two and three innings respectively while combining to allow just one hit.

Kayla Parisi led the Rockport offense going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Courtney Nelson and Hannah Lorden had two hits and two RBIs each while Mollie Watson had a pair of hits and Isobel MacCrate had a three run home run.

The Hornets (0-1) dropped their season opener against a tough non-league foe. Chris Dumont and John Beardsley led the way for Manchester Essex offensively with a goal and an assist each. Ely Kaufmann paced the offense, Jack Hennigan had a strong day in the face-off circle while Alex Taliaferro had 12 saves in goal.
