Title game bound
Joe Mussachia and the Amherst College men’s basketball team are heading to the NCAA Division 3 National Championship game this weekend. Amherst (29-2) will square off against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (27-5) on Sunday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga. (12:30 p.m.).
The game will be broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network and is at the same venue as the Division 1 Men’s Final Four. The NCAA placed the Division 1, 2 and 3 championship games at the same venue this season in honor of the 75th anniversary of March Madness.
The Lord Jeffs reached the finals on March 23 with a 52-44 win over North Central University in the semifinals. Amherst also knocked off SUNY Plattsburgh, Randolph-Macon and Cabrini on its way to the championship game.
Mussachia, the all time leading scorer at Manchester Essex with 1,700 career points, appeared in 16 games off the bench as a sophomore this season for the Lord Jeffs.

The Patriots preseason opponents were announced on Thursday and the team will open their preseason schedule against the Philadelphia Eagles at a date to be announced. The Pats will then take on Tampa Bay on August 16 followed by contests against Detroit and the New York Giants.
KG back Sunday
Celtics coach Doc Rivers told reporters after Thursday’s practice that Kevin Garnett’s ankle is doing much better and he is expected to play on Sunday against the Washington Wizards.
“I think he’ll be back, maybe as early as Sunday, but I don’t know yet,” Rivers said. “He’s not going to do anything (Thursday). He’s doing all the running and stuff in (the weight room) and he’ll do some court stuff without the team. And he’ll probably participate in the shootaround (Friday), but I’m not going to play him (Friday), even if he wants to play.”
