---- — Another setback
Rob Gronkowski’s availability for the start of the 2013 season is in jeopardy. According to a report by the Boston Herald Gronkowski will need a fourth surgery on his injured left forearm.
According to the Herald report Gronkowski will need to have the plate in his forearm removed because doctors aren’t sure if an infection on his arm has healed. The estimated time of recovery for another surgery would be 10 weeks.
Gronkowski broke his left forearm on November 18 and re-injured it in the Patriots Divisional Round playoff game against Houston on January 13.
David Ortiz is getting closer to returning to the Red Sox lineup. Today Ortiz is expected to bat four times in an extended spring training game. If things go well Ortiz could begin his minor league rehab assignment later in the week.
“His recovery time is becoming less and less,’’ Red Sox manager John Farrell said. “That’s the gauge by which we ramp up the intensity. And his outlook has become more positive as time goes by, and he’s in a good place right now. He’s looking forward to the next progression.”
