Area Roundup: ME golf earns share of outright CAL title

The Hornets (10-2) took down the Cape Ann League Large leaders to clinch the Cape Ann League Small title and force a tie with the Vikings for the outright Cape Ann League title.

Cam Tuttle led the way for the Hornets with 32 points. Kevin Carter chipped in 29 points, Alex Beckmann 26, Ben Bichet 25 and Petey Morton 23.

Beverly 46.5 Gloucester 25.5

The Fishermen fell short against a very talented and deep Panthers team at Bass Rocks Golf Club.

Curtis Quinn was the lone Gloucester player to pick up a win Thursday winning 5.5-3.5 at the No. 1 spot. Bart Margiotta halved his match while Eric Chalmers and Reilly Zubricki also played well.

Masconomet 189 Rockport 129

The Vikings put up their best score of the season but the Chieftains countered with an outstanding afternoon.

Abby Hood led the way for Rockport with 38 points shooting a one under par 35. Travis Sweet had 24 points, Joe Muzio 19 and Kyle Nelson 17.

Rockport 3 Georgetown 0

The Vikings get back to .500 with the shutout win at home on Thursday. Miranda Roller scored a pair of goals, Rushy Sweet added the other to move the team’s record to 6-6-2 on the year.

Jess Collins, Heather MacArthur and Heidi Warde also played well for Rockport, which needs four points in its final four games to qualify for the postseason.

Gloucester had trouble finding any offense at Manning Field Wednesday en route to the shutout loss. Tess Benson had a big game for Gloucester, which moves to 1-8-1 on the year.
