Crunch Time

CAL All Stars

The Cape Ann League announced its field hockey all star team on Tuesday and six players hailing from Cape Ann were named to the team.

Cape Ann League Small champion Manchester Essex netted four all stars, its four senior captains in Sarah Beckman, Anna Heffernan, Taylor Meek and Brittany Smith. Rockport had a pair of All Stars in Heather MacArthur and Shelby Battistelli.

Soccer Pairings

The MIAA boys and girls soccer pairings will be announced this afternoon and a pair of Cape Ann boys teams will find out just where it will be playing in the first round.

Gloucester figures to be one of the lower seeds in Division 2 North and will most likely open on the road. Rockport, on the other hand, figures to be a high seed in Division 3 North and will most likely get a home game this coming weekend.

Celtics Opener

The Boston Celtics open up the 2013-2014 season tonight in Toronto against the Raptors (7 p.m.).

The Celtics open up the season with little hype after trading away Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett this offseason. Boston, however, does have a lot of intriguing young talent that will be on display this season.

It will certainly be a rebuilding year for the Celtics this season, but President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge has put them in a good position to build with young talent moving forward.

Pats Trade

The Patriots were players at the trade deadline making a deal that fills an immediate need on Tuesday.

The Pats shipped a fifth round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga and a sixth round draft choice. With Vince Wilfork injured for the season Sopoaga fills an immediate need and should step in and help right away.
