The Gloucester boys lacrosse team battled the Witches from start to finish Tuesday on the road in the season opener for both teams. But in the end it was Salem that made one more play to earn the win.
Gloucester (0-1) was led by Ian Kennedy, who led the Fishermen offense with a pair of goals. Also scoring for Gloucester was Jason Lattof, Austin Titus, John Curcuru and Winslow Lewis.
Manchester Essex 17Winthrop 5
The Hornets (1-0) started off the season with a bang on Tuesday with a dominant win at home.
“It was a great way to start the season,” head coach Sarah Holch said. “Everyone played, everyone touched the ball and everyone played well.”
Brittany Smith led the way for Manchester Essex with six goals. Maya Heath had four goals, Taylor Meek scored three while Olivia Mastendino had three assists. Also playing well for the Hornets was Carolyn Heslop (goal, assist), Olivia Lantz (goal) and the defensive pairing of Lila Hughes and Sophia Guerrero.
