Crunch Time

Fairbanks passes away

Former Patriots head coach Chuck Fairbanks died of brain cancer Tuesday at the age of 79.

Fairbanks coached the Patriots from 1973-1978 leading them to a winning record over his final three seasons. Fairbanks coached some of the franchises best teams at the time including the 1976 team that finished 11-3 and was controversially eliminated from the playoffs by the Oakland Raiders.

Fairbanks was also instrumental in drafting Patriots legends John Hannah, Russ Francis, Michael Haynes and Steve Nelson.

Visa issues

The Bruins acquired forward Kasper Daugavins in a trade from Ottawa on March 27, but the 24 year old winger still hasn’t been able to report to the team.

The reason for the delay is that Daugavins is still in the process of approval for a US work Visa. Daugavins, a Russian native, was scheduled to land in Boston on Monday but did not play against the Senators, his former team, last night at the TD Garden.

Daugavins has a goal and two assists in 19 games this season for the Senators.

Top of the line

Now that the Bruins have traded for Jaromir Jagr to upgrade the offense, head coach Claude Julien must put him on the top two lines.

Jagr, 41, would be a perfect fit along side David Krejci and Milan Lucic on the first line. Krejci idolized Jagr as a kid as both hail from the Czech Republic and he would give that line an instant goal scoring threat.

Moving Nathan Horton down to the third line will not only greatly improve the talent on the struggling line, but improve the teams depth overall. Horton’s physical, grinding style would also mesh well with the Bruins current third line.

Putting a player with Jagr offensive talent on a line with Rich Peverly and Jordan Caron is a waste, his talents are much better suited playing with a playmaker like Kejci.
