RHS softball sweeps double dip

The Vikings move to 5-0 on the season after sweeping a double header from Notre Dame High School 6-2 and 16-6.

"We played great in both games," Vikings head coach Dianne Parisi said. "Up and down the order everybody contributed."

Mollie Watson and Gabby Muniz led the Vikings offense in game one as each had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Kendra Adams also had two hits and an RBI for Rockport in game 1.

Meghan Tupper powered the Vikings offense in their 16-6 game two win with four hits and three RBIs, Amanda Chalmers had three hits and two RBIs while Adams and Muniz once again chipped in a pair of hits.

Kristin Turner picked up the win in both games pitching all 14 innings.

Gloucester picks up its first win of the year in dramatic fashion over one of the top teams in the Northeastern Conference. Clare Pleuler came through with a walk-off single to break a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh driving in Olivia Legendre who led off the inning with a double.

Sophie Black had a two run home run for Gloucester that Nicastro estimates went 250 feet, Freshman Tess Benson and Casey Oliver had two hits each for Gloucester.

BASEBALL

Big Blue lefty Nick Mennino kept the Fishermen bats at bay allowing three hits and handing them their first loss of the season as they fall to 4-1. The game was Gloucester's fifth contest in just a week.

Mike Muniz, Peter Clark and Kyle Lucido had Gloucester's hits. Lenny Taormina pitched well in 3 2/3 shutout innings out of the bullpen.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Gloucester (0-4) was led by Freshman attack Tess Destino (1g, 2a) while Caity O'Leary and Melodie Orrell chipped in two goals each. Hayley Labrecque, Julienne Orrell and Kelly Foster all scored goals for Gloucester while Claudia Oliva played well in goal stopping an abundance of shots.

The Hornets fall to 3-2 with a hard fought loss to a strong Masco team. Goalie Katie Furber, who was just called up from the JV team, played well with 17 saves. Taylor Meek led the offense with five goals and an assist. Brittany Smith, Kristen Cole and Taylor Coons also scored for Manchester Essex.

GIRLS TENNIS

PEabody 4 gloucester 1

Gloucester falls to 0-3 with the loss. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Jill MacDonald and Qiana Curcuru picked up Gloucester's point with a 6-2, 7-6 win.

TRACK

Gloucester was no match for the mighty Tanners who are not only the favorites in the Northeastern Conference but boast a big numbers advantage over Gloucester.

Elizabeth McCormick picked up a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 104', Elle Wierbicky won the 200 (27.3) with a state qualifying mark, Bianca Giacalone won the 100m (13.2) and the 4x100 relay team of Giacalone, Wierbicky, Audrey Knowlton and Molly McCoy also came away with a first place finish.

peabody 93 gloucester 32 (boys)

Gloucester lost to a stacked Peabody squad but had some strong performances in the process. Josh Rudolph won the 400 hurdles breaking the 60 second mark.

The Fishermen also got first place finishes from Noah Mondello (2-mile, 10:25.4) and Matt Carpenter (800, 2:02.3). Jacob Holscher (mile), Phil Curcuru (110 hurdles), Everest Crawford (400), Pete Mondello (javelin) and Wyatt Ronan (400) all turned in second place finishes.
