The Gloucester boys lacrosse team moved to 4-10 on the year with a nail biting 5-4 double overtime win over Peabody at Newell Stadium Monday. Vinny Spirani netted the tying goal with under 30 seconds to play in regulation with Ian Kennedy scoring the winner in double OT. Robert Deckert, Austin Titus and Jason Lattoff also scored for the Fishermen.

Gloucester (9-6) will have to wait at least one more day to clinch a tournament berth as its defense had one bad inning in the loss. Jason Vizena, 3-for-3 with a home run, and Marcus Cottone, two hits, powered the Gloucester offense and cut a six run Fishermen deficit to two by games end.
Gloucester is hoping to clinch a tournament berth this afternoon when they travel to Saugus.

The Hornets (4-9) state tournament hopes took a big hit in the loss. Manchester Essex will now need to beat both Rockport and Cathedral to qualify for the postseason. Joe Burgess was the tough luck loser going the distance while allowing just two hits, Matt Corwin had two hits at the plate for the Hornets.

The Hornets drop to 4-10 with the loss. Kelly Dodge powered the Hornets offense going 3-for-3 with a triple and a double. Nicole Bradley went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double while Mel Tognazzi had a hit and played stellar outfield defense.
BOYS TENNIS

The Hornets hung tough against the class of CAL Division 2 but fell shy dropping to 7-5 on the year. No. 2 singles player Calvin Lamothe picked up the win for Manchester Essex 6-1, 6-3. Head coach Rob Bilsbury credited the play of No. 3 singles Jeff Durkin, who lost a heartbreaker in three sets (7-6, 2-6, 3-6) and the No. 2 doubles tandem of Seth Cohen and Josh Christopher who also dropped a hard fought match 3-6, 6-7.
