Crunch Time

Talk is cheap

Did the New York Jets kidnap the Giants this week? The Giants have been doing a lot of talking this week and they are starting to sound like Rex Ryan and company unfortunately.

First we have safety Antrelle Rolle saying the Giants are expecting to win, then we have Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul saying they are in Tom Brady's head and Osi Umenyiora calling the Patriots offensive line dirty (is it just me or does he say that about every team every week?).

Talking trash about the Patriots leading up to a big game used to be the kiss of death for Patriots opponents, but without Rodney Harrison or Tedy Bruschi around anymore there is nobody on the Patriots who will step up and make the Giants talk bulletin board material.

The talk will have no effect on Sunday's game, it will be decided by the play on the field.

Super mismatch

Much has been made about how good Giants wide receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are and how porous the Patriots cover on the outside. But the biggest mismatch is in the slot, where Giants No. 3 receiver Mario Manningham will potentially be covered by Julian Edelman.

Edelman was a college quarterback and an NFL wide receiver and should be commended for going both ways, but he's not in Manningham's league.

Manning to the AFC East?

Now that Peyton Manning has been cleared by doctors to resume his football career and given the situation in Indianapolis, there is a real possibility that he could be playing on an AFC East team.

We know the Colts are taking Andrew Luck, and that will probably be the end of Manning's time in Indianapolis.

There are two teams in the East, the Jets and Dolphins, who are a quarterback away from having Super Bowl contending teams. Manning certainly isn't a long term solution, but he could very well have another good year or two left in the tank.
