Let them throw to Manningham
Before the Giants game-winning drive in the Super Bowl, Bill Belichick told his players not to let wide receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks beat them, according to ESPN.com.
He wanted his defense to have Eli Manning throw to Mario Manningham.
"This is still a Cruz-and-Nicks game," Belichick was heard saying in audio recorded for NFL Films, according to ESPN.com. "I know we're right on them. It's tight, but those are still the guys. Make them go to Manningham, make them go to (Bear) Pascoe. Let's make sure we get Cruz and Nicks."
Manningham ended up making the biggest play of the game, catching a 38-yard pass down the left sideline and getting both feet inbounds.
Thomas remains silent
Bruins goalie Tim Thomas posted another Facebook message regarding his beliefs Wednesday.
He wrote: "I Stand with the Catholics in the fight for Religious Freedom." He followed that up by quoting Martin Niemöller, who was a German anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran pastor. The quote states: "In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."
He then was vague while answering questions about the Facebook post at Bruins practice yesterday.
"I say that is my personal life and that has absolutely nothing to do with the Bruins or hockey and I'm going to use my right to remain silent,'' he said.
When reminded that Facebook is a public forum, he agreed.
"You have the right to ask the question, but I have the right to not answer," he said.
