2012 Field Hockey Capsules

2012 Cape Ann Field Hockey Capsules

Gloucester

Head Coach: Stephanie Couture (2nd Season)

Captains: Katie McTigue, Sr.; Marlee Melvin, Sr.; Julia Lamoureaux, Jr.

Key Returning Players: Hayley Davis, Jr.; Sophie Donnelly, Jr.; Autumn Zubricki, Jr.; Jordan Westling, Jr.; Jill MacDonald, Jr.; Taylor Sargent, Jr.; Olivia Legendre, Jr.; Kayla Nasser, Soph.

Strengths: On field communication has been key for the Fishermen early this season as has team defense. Gloucester returns a lot of starters from 2011 from a strong junior class including goalie Jordan Westling.

Concerns: Head coach Stephanie Couture’s only concern is her team staying healthy.

Coach’s Outlook: “We look ten stronger than last year physically and we have improved a lot of the little things that were holding us back last year. We have a lot of strong returning players and I predict a good season.”

Manchester Essex

Head Coach: Andrea Slaven (3rd season)

Captains: Kelsi Field, Sr.; Nicole Bradley, Sr.; Maddi Bistrong, Sr.

Key Returning Players: Brittany Smith, Jr.; Megan Jones, Jr.; Carolyn Heslop, Jr.; Ivy Silag-Stearns, Sr.; Sarah Beckmann, Sr.

Strengths: The Hornets fundamental stick work is very strong and head coach Andrea Slaven pointed out that the team is a very cohesive unit.

Concerns: The Hornets are fundamentally sound but always working to improve in that area.

Coach’s Outlook: “I’m excited about this team. I think we’re really experienced, we have a lot of veterans returning from a good team last year. I think this team is hungry to make another strong state tournament run.”

Rockport

Head Coach: Mary Ryan (29th season)

Captains: Meghan Reilly, Sr.; Maddie Sanfilippo, Sr.

Key Returning Players: Aliza Ottenheimer, Sr.; Heather MacArthur, Jr.; Heidi Warde, Jr.; Zoe Sewell, Jr.; Jamey Ouellette, Jr.

Strengths: The Vikings have a strong group of players coming back from 2011 and all have shown significant improvements over the last year.

Concerns: Rockport is very young as they will be starting five Freshman this spring. The biggest loss to graduation was 2011 All CAL goalie Katie Reilly, but coach Mary Ryan says Freshman replacement Maddie Rowe has been doing a good job.

Coach’s Outlook: “Preseason has shown that the players have improved with every practice and scrimmage. We must continue to do that.”
