Rockport softball starts 2-0


Senior captain and pitcher Kristin Turner went the distance allowing just one hit in the Viking's 15-1 shellacking in a non-league contest on the road against Wayland Monday.

Rockport took advantage of some shaky Wayland defense in a back breaking 11 run fourth inning. Kayla Parisi led the Rockport offense with three hits, catcher Mollie Watson had a strong game defensively.

The Hornets (1-1) jumped out early with two first inning runs but were held scoreless the rest of the way. Sophomore Rachel Gallagher led the Hornets offense with two hits, senior captain Kelly Dodge drove in both runs.

BASEBALL

The Vikings move to 0-1 with a loss in their season opener. Rockport had five hits in the game with no player picking up more than one. Adam Balzarini had a hit and a run scored, Conor Douglass, Mike Tupper, Caleb Tanson and Kyle Nelson also had hits for Rockport.

The Fishermen drop their first game of the season. Jason Lattof and Anthony Palazola were the goal scorers for Gloucester.

GIRLS LACROSSE

The Hornets move to 2-1 with a win. Taylor Meek and Brittany Smith powered the Manchester Essex offense with three goals and two assists each. Olivia Mastendino had two goals and an assist while Carolyn Heslop and Sophia Guerriero, chipped in two goals a piece.

GIRLS TENNIS

Gloucester starts the year 0-1 with losing by the slimmest of margins. The Fishermen swept the doubles matches as the No. 1 tandem of Eleanor Keller and Maryka Gillis won 6-2, 6-1 and the No. 2 tandem of Jill MacDonald and Qiana Curcuru picked up a win 6-0, 6-1.
