---- — Playersof the Week

The Red Sox had such a big week last week that two players shared American League Player of the Week honors.

First baseman Mike Napoli and closer Andrew Bailey were named Co-Players of the Week on Monday.

Bailey had a win, three saves and eight strikeouts in five innings of work, essentially cementing himself as the Sox closer. Napoli, on the other hand, hit .345 with five doubles, a home run and 10 RBI last week including a walk-off double to send the Sox to a 3-2 win over the Rays on Patriots Day.

Cano Investigated

According to an ESPN report Major League Baseball is investigating Yankees All Star second baseman Robinson Cano’s ties to Biogenesis, an anti-aging clinic in Florida that allegedly provided Major League Baseball players with performance-enhancing drugs.

According to the ESPN report a spokeswoman for Cano’s foundation was listed on the client list for Biogenesis alongside Melky Cabrera and Alex Rodriguez.

Cano would not comment on the story Monday.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with me. ... I know what I’m doing and I know myself,” Cano said. “I’m going to play my game. ... I didn’t see what the story said, but I have no comment.”

SixthMan of the Year

New York Knicks swing man J.R. Smith was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year on Monday. Smith received 72 first place votes and easily beat out second place finish Jamal Crawford of the Los Angeles Clippers, who had 31 first place votes.

Smith averaged 18.1 points per game off the bench for the Knicks this season. Although he is a sixth man and does not start, Smith plays starter minutes for the Knicks and is their second-leading scorer.

“Couldn’t have happened to a better guy,” Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said. “I’m so proud of him, in terms of buying in to what we wanted him to do earlier in the season.”

Smith had a big game one against the Celtics on Saturday, game two is tonight at Madison Square Garden (8:00 p.m.).
