Crunch Time

Big Game Alert

The Northeastern Conference Cross Country title is on the line this afternoon when Gloucester travels to Swampscott.

Gloucester comes into the contest sporting a 5-0 record fresh off the heels of a 15-50 win over Winthrop last week.

Gloucester has been led by seniors Jacob Holscher and Noah Mondello this fall. Head coach Dave Dunsky has said the meet is a pick’em, meaning it is up for grabs to whichever team runs the best.

Red Sox tickets

According to “Ace Tickets,” re-sale tickets to Boston Red Sox tickets in September were 30-50 percent of their usual value and the average resale price of a ticket was $48, the lowest for any month of the season in many years. Obviously, this was not a surprise.

Space in Boston

As of 10 days ago, there were still 2,000 slots available for qualified runners in the 2013 Boston Marathon. In recent years, the field has filled up quickly and many qualified runners were unable to register. However, the standards have been toughened and the process made fairer for all involved.

Biggest biceps

As detailed in a Boston paper last week, a 24-year-old Franklin man has been designated by the folks responsible for the Guinness Book of World Records as having the biggest biceps in the world. Moustafa Ismail, who moved from Egypt, has biceps 31 inches around and they’re getting bigger all the time.

Ismail, who claims he doesn’t use steroids, grew his biceps by five inches in the last year. By comparison, Arnold Schwarzenegger had 22-inch biceps in his prime.
