Bruins trade Seguin, Peverly to Dallas

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Bruins are sending Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars for fellow forward Loui Eriksson as part of a seven-player trade.

In addition to Eriksson, the Bruins are also acquiring forwards Matt Fraser, Reilly Smith and defenseman Joe Morrow in the deal announced Thursday. Dallas will receive Seguin, forward Rich Peverley and defenseman Ryan Button. Morrow, a defenseman, is the prized prospect in this deal.

The trade also clears up some cap space for the Bruins, who are looking to acquire forward Daniel Alfredson from Ottawa. Trading Seguin means the Bruins have parted ways with two of their top six forwards as Nathan Horton is leaving as a free agent.

Seguin, chosen with the No. 2 pick by Boston in the 2010 draft, led the Bruins in scoring during the 2011-12 season. He was a member of the 2011 Stanley Cup championship team and was selected as an NHL All-Star in 2012.

Eriksson, a 2011 All-Star, had 29 points in 48 games for the Stars last season. He has a career plus-31 rating. Eriksson, who is expected to play along side Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, is also durable having missed just three games in his NHL career, he has also eclipsed the 25 goal plateau four times in his career.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli says he is confident the team will also re-sign goalie Tuukka Rask.

Chiarelli told reporters on a conference call Wednesday that he thinks it will happen by Friday, when Rask can become a restricted free agent. Even if they don't meet the deadline, the GM says he still feels like he can get a deal done.\

Rask allowed just two goals a game this season while leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup finals. He is 26.

Chiarelli also said he would consider re-signing forward Jaromir Jagr. The team had decided to part ways with the future Hall of Famer, whom they acquired at the trade deadline. But after Nathan Horton said he wanted to test the market, that left Boston looking for forwards.
