Crunch Time

Nights to remember

The Gloucester Daily Times sports department is running a summer series from August 21-25 counting down the top 10 games over the last five years.

If there are any games you would like to nominate from the 2007-2008 school year to the present please email sports editor Nick Curcuru at ncurcuru@gloucestertimes.com.

Luck of

Light?@headNotebook:

As Patriots fans know well, recently-retired lineman Matt Light was Tom Brady ‘s bodyguard for 11 seasons during which Brady threw for 300 touchdowns (fifth in NFL history) and 39,979 yards (14th all-time). But did you know Brady is not the most prolific QB Light played with?

In college at Purdue, Light protected another future Hall of Famer, Saints QB Drew Brees who has gone on to throw for 40,742 yards (11th all-time) and 281 touchdowns (ninth all-time) during his NFL career.

Not a bad resume.

It’s also worth noting that Light played ever so briefly with Drew Bledsoe, who is eighth in NFL history in passing yards (44,611) and 15th in touchdowns (251).

Fletcher clears

Just two days after the Patriots waived injured linebacker Dane Fletcher he cleared waivers and will spend the season on the Patriots’ injured reserve list.

Fletcher tore his ACL in the Patriots 7-6 preseason opening win over the Saints last Friday.
