Big Game Alert
The Manchester Essex Mariners can clinch the Intertown Twilight Baseball League title for the second straight year with a win in Game 4 of the ITL Finals this afternoon at Rowley (2:00 p.m.).
The Mariners, who finished first in the ITL regular season, bested No. 2 Rowley 3-2 in Game 1 and 10-6 in Game 3 to take control of the series.
The pitching matchup will be a rematch of Game 1 as the Mariners will send Rusty Tucker to the hill against Rowley’s Mike Sloban. Both Tucker and Sloban pitched well in game one with Tucker picking up the win thanks to a late Mariners rally.
If Rowley wins and forces a winner take all Game 5 it will be Sunday at Memorial Field in Essex (2:00 p.m.).
Arod “shouldn’t be playing”
New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has built up his share of critics over the years, and Red Sox starter John Lackey just added his name to that long list.
Lackey expressed his displeasure with facing Rodriguez in the Red Sox and Yankees weekend series at Fenway, Lackey is scheduled to pitch today.
”I’ve got a problem with it. You bet I do,” Lackey told the Boston Globe. “How is he still playing? He obviously did something and he’s playing. I’m not sure that’s right. ... It’s pretty evident he’s been doing stuff for a lot of years I’ve been facing him.”
Another Sox-Yankee rivalry
Red Sox starting pitcher Ryan Dempster and Yankees reliever David Robertson are taking their rivalry beyond the mound and going online to see who can raise the most money for charity. It is the Power of 2-Baseball Challenge.
Dempster is supporting his Dempster Family Foundation and the quality of life of those affected by 22q Deletion Syndrome. Dempster’s four year-old daughter was diagnosed with the syndrome at birth. Robertson is supporting his foundation, High Socks for Hope, which helps families impacted by tragedies and natural disasters.
