---- — The Bass Rocks Annual Men’s Member-Guest Tennis Tournament was held this past weekend with very exciting and tremendous matches headlined by a three set championship match.
The A Flight was won by Jim Henaghan and Dale Broach, who defeated Dom deLacy and Peter deLacy in three hard fought sets 7-6, 6-7, 6-2.
In the first set Henaghan and Broach were up 5-3 only to see the deLacys come back from behind to tie it up at 6-6. Heneaghan and Broach, however, battled back to take the tie-breaker set 7-5 and the lead in the match. In the second set the lead went back and forth again as the tandems were tied at 6-6 with another tiebreaker. This time it was the deLacys that came away with a tight 7-5 win to bring the match to a deciding third and final set.
The third set found Henaghan and Broach up 2-1 with Broach serving seven deuce points before holding for 3-1 and never looked back, winning the set 6-2. It was a long and high quality match with many incredible points.
The Consolation flight was won by Ed Frick and Jake Doue defeating David Salah and Andy Rappoli 7-6, 6-1.
The best tennis players at Bass Rocks will be right back at it on August 29 at the Bass Rocks Open Tennis Tournament, which runs through September 1.
The events include men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
The Women’s events will start on Thursday, August 29 while the Men’s events will begin on Friday, August 30. All events are single elimination with no consolation roun
Deadline for signing up for the women’s events will be Tuesday, August 27 at 6 PM and the deadline for the men’s events is Wednesday, August 28 at 6 PM.
