BEVERLY 17, GLOUCESTER 9

Despite the lopsided final score, the Fishermen held with a strong Beverly squad for much of Thursday’s game and cut the lead to as little as two goals before Beverly pulled away.

Melodie Orrell led the way for Gloucester with four goals and an assist, while Caity O’Leary added three goals and an assist of her own. Ariana Puopolo and Laura Johnson each added a goal apiece. Orrell and Tess Destino also chipped in with some solid draw-possession.

The loss dropped Gloucester to 4-5 on the year.

BASEBALL

HAMILTON-WENHAM 9, MANCHESTER ESSEX 1

The Hornets suffered another tough conference loss yesterday, this time at the hands of rival Hamilton-Wenham.

The Generals kept the Hornets’ bats quiet all day and found a way to notch plenty of runs. Co-captains Cory Burnham and Max Nesbit combined for the Hornets’ lone run, as Burnham tripled and was knocked in by Nesbit.

With the loss, the Hornets now sit at 2-9 on the year and will host Masconomet on Monday.
