Manchester Essex 4
The Cape Ann League Small leading Hornets (12-0) flexed their muscles as the top team in all of the Cape Ann League on the road Wednesday with a win over the CAL Large leading Chieftains. With the win Manchester Essex is now the only team to knock off Masconomet in Cape Ann League play this season.
“Masco is obviously an awesome team and we just played some great tennis today,” Hornets head coach Rob Bilsbury said. “It was a great day all the way around.”
Picking up wins for the Hornets were No. 1 singles player Mike Fuca (6-3, 6-0), Calvin Lamothe at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1), Sam Girian at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-1) and the No. 1 doubles tandem of Jeff Durkin and Seth Cohen (6-0, 6-1).
The Fishermen (3-11) were no match for the Northeastern Conference frontrunning Panthers. Winslow Lewis had a goal and an assist for Gloucester while Austin Titus and Andrew Gossom each scored a goal.

The Lady Hornets continue to dominate every opponent that comes their way moving to 13-0 with yet another shutout win.
Hornets victors were Brittany Collens at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-0), Michelle Fuca at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 singles Kendall McCormick (6-0, 6-0), Rachel Daley and Chanel Bullock at No. 1 doubles (6-1, 6-0), and the No. 2 doubles tandem of Avery St. Sauveur and Molly Carlson (6-4, 6-3).
Gloucester moves to 6-6 on the year with the loss to the unbeaten Northeastern Conference Small champions. No. 1 singles Corinne DeLouise played well for Gloucester falling in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4). The No. 2 doubles tandem of Kelsi Salah and Rose Margetson also dropped a close match in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).
Melodie Orrell scored seven goals for Gloucester (5-6) but Hamilton Wenham was just too strong. Tess Destino had a goal and an assist, Yazmeen Shahain played well in goal while Laura Johnson and Alex Barusso powered the defense.
