Gloucester drops to 5-8 with the loss and can not finish the regular season above .500 but still has a chance to get into the postseason. Gloucester can clinch a share of the Northeastern Conference South title with a win at home against Salem today (4:00 p.m., Magnolia Woods).
Melodie Orrell led the Gloucester offense with three goals, Caity O’Leary had two goals, Tess Destino a goal and an assist while Caylee DaSilva and Katie McTigue each scored a goal.
Triton 10 Manchester Essex 5
The Hornets played well taking a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning but Triton broke the game wide open from there. Nicole Bradley led the way for the Hornets going 3-4 with a triple.

The Hornets move to 15-0 on the season with the win in a match that was played in 10-game pro-sets due to inclement weather.
Winners for Manchester Essex were Brittany Collens at No. 1 singles (10-1), Michelle Fuca at No. 2 singles (10-0), Kendall McCormick at No. 3 singles (10-0), Avery St. Sauveur and Molly Carlson at No. 1 doubles (10-0), and Conor Deedy and Katie Andrews at No. 2 singles in a hard fought match over Rockport’s Ellie Mortillaro and Maura McCormick (10-4).

No. 2 singles player Jill MacDonald (6-1, 6-3), No. 3 singles Qiana Curcuru (6-0, 6-3) and the No. 2 doubles tandem of Kelsi Salah and Rose Margetson (7-5, 6-4) were victorious for Gloucester.

Gloucester moves to 10-6 with the win in its final home match of the season. Winners for Gloucester were Corinne DeLouise at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-0), Jill MacDonald at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-1), Hannah Richards and Cassandra Bradley at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 6-2) and Kelsi Salah and Rose Margetson at No. 2 doubles.
Malden Catholic 3Gloucester 2
Gloucester (6-8) now has its back up against the wall needing to win its final two matches of the season against Winthrop and Danvers to qualify for the state tournament. The Fishermen beat Winthrop 5-0 in their previous meeting but lost to Danvers 5-0 earlier this season.
Gloucester swept the doubles matches against Malden Catholic with the No. 1 tandem of Cal Cosgrove and Pat Kelley (6-3, 6-0) and the No. 2 team of George Black and Drew Muniz (7-6, 6-4) coming away with wins.
Ipswich 8 Manchester Essex 2
The Hornets took a 2-1 lead into the final inning of play but couldn’t close it out. Max Nesbit led the way for the Hornets going 1-for-2 with an RBI double and started the first three innings on the mound. Sean Desmond had a pair of hits and two shutout innings of relief while Cory McCollum had a RBI double.
