---- — They formed the most successful female relay team that Gloucester High School has ever seen in the early 1990’s.
Last week at the Lynn Woods Relays, Gloucester’s Lenia Ascenso, Vita Taormina, Donna Boucher and Regina Randazza Loiacano reunited, and the results were nothing short of stellar.
The Lynn Woods Relays are a 10 mile jaunt through the woods of Lynn, with four legs at two and a half miles each. Of the 109 teams competing the Gloucester quartet finished strong with the 18th best time, good for the top spot in the Women’s Masters Division with a time of 1:13:28.
The team, running under the team name “We Found Donna” turned in a time that would have been good enough to win the Women’s Open Division and win the Men’s Masters Division. They had the second best time overall for a women’s team finishing just seconds behind a team consisting of Beverly High School cross country runners.
Randazza Loiacano ran the top split running the anchor leg with a time of 15:47. Boucher finished with a time of 17:28, Ascenso with a time of 20:02 and Taormina with a time of 20:11.
The quartet last competed at the High School level at the Indoor Easterns, a meet that pitted the top relay teams in the Northeast Region of the United States. The Gloucester team was the top ranked 4x800 team in New England and finished third in the Indoor Easterns behind a pair of teams from New York.
