Three first-half Weston High goals meant the end of the line for the Rockport High boys' soccer team today, as second-seeded Weston captured the Division 3 North Sectional boys' soccer title with a 3-0 win over the Vikings at Lynn's Manning Field.
The loss means Rockport ends its landmark season with a record of 14-5-3, and closes out a season in which the Vikings made the sectional finals for the first time in the program's history. Rockport, seeded fourth at the start of the tournament, earned its place in today's championship game with a 5-0 first-round win over Matignon, then a pair of dramatic 1-0 victories, beating rival Lynnfield in double overtime, and then edging Austin Prep in the semifinal last Wednesday night.
The North title means that Weston, which is now 13-2-6 and racked up 18 goals in four tournament games, will advance to the state Final 4 Division 3 tournament later this week.
