Rogers finishes in top-20 at All-State meet

By Nick Curcuru

Gloucester High's Caulin Rogers came into Saturday's All-State cross country meet in Northfield Mass. with a specific goal in mind.

After finishing 12th at the Division 2 state meet one week earlier, Rogers was hoping to finish in the top 20 at the All-State meet.

As it turned out, Rogers achieved his goal with a 16th-place finish and a time of 16:56.

Navigating the difficult mountain course in first place was Mansfield's Patrick McGowan (16:05). The Mansfield High School senior also won last week's Division 2 meet at Franklin Park in Boston.

"A top 20 finish is what I'm looking for," Rogers said prior to Saturday's race.

"Coach (Dave) Dunsky says that you double your finish in the Division 2 meet to find the area that you finish in the All-State, but I want to improve on that."

Rogers has now finished what has turned in to an extremely impressive junior campaign that includes the Northeastern Conference individual title, a 12th-place finish at the Division 2 state meet and now a top-20 finish at the All-State meet.

Rogers' teammate, Fishermen senior Andrew Ryan, finished 123rd in the race with a time of 18:31.
