Manchester Essex field hockey's loss to Watertown 2-1 in the Division 2 North final on November 15th is further proof of how close the Hornets (20-1-1) were to being state champions.
While the same could be said for the Rockport (14-5-3) boys' soccer team who were knocked out the same day in the Division 3 North final by Weston 3-0.
This past weekend, both the Watertown field hockey team and the Weston boys' soccer team captured state titles in their respective divisions.
The Red Raiders beat Canton (the South champion) 1-0 in the Division 2 state semifinals last Wednesday before beating Oakmont (the Central Mass. champion) 1-0 this past Saturday at Worcester State College in the Division 2 state final.
The Wildcats beat Cardinal Spellman (the South champion) 4-0 in the Division 3 state semifinals on Wednesday and then yesterday afternoon at Worcester State, they shutout Douglas (the Central champion) 2-0 in the Division 3 state final.
Therefore it is not hyperbole to say that the Hornets and Vikings were some of the best teams in the state given who they both lost to.
