Crunch Time

KG is back

Kevin Garnett will be back in Celtic green for the next three years as the future Hall of Fame power forward/center signed a three year $34 million deal on Saturday.

The move is huge for the Celtics future. Sure it will not put them ahead of the Miami Heat, who are going to rule the East and the entire NBA for at least the next half decade, but it puts them in the mix to have a deep playoff run for the next three seasons.

If Garnett had retired or signed elsewhere the Celtics would have had no choice but to rebuild, now we will still see great basketball in Boston for at least three more seasons.

Title IX fallacy

There was a ton of fawning media coverage nationwide for the recent 40th anniversary of Title IX. I think it's a deeply flawed, overreaching, politically correct piece of legislation. The explosion of women's sports was inevitable, Title IX probably only hastened it by a couple years.

It has devastated numerous men's sports. A 2010 NCAA report said 110 wrestling programs and 73 tennis programs were dropped since 1989 in the three divisions. Also, 14 Division 1 schools dropped baseball.

Betcha didn't know

Popular rapper Tauheed Epps (aka 2 Chainz) averaged 3.0 points a game in one season (1996-97) at Division 1 Alabama State. He must have been thinking of rhymes during the games as he shot a miserable 12 of 31 from the line.
